Ordnance Machine Shop, Battery Hays

The Ordnance Machine Shop (1910) adjacent to Battery Hays in photo below.
It currently houses military exhibits, open only by appointment.
This building was used to repair the gun tubes from all of the Portsmouth batteries.
(see Fort Stark Museum - page 6 for photos of the artifacts on display)

Battery Hays (1905-1942)
This battery was armed with two 3-inch RF (rapid-fire) pedestal-mount guns.
It protected the harbor minefield.
The communications cable terminal port connecting to Camp Langdon
was located on the left rear side of the battery in a small room.
On the left is the concrete instrument pedestal for the M' Mine Observation Station (1909).
