Photographs of Fort Carroll

Battery Towson held two 12-inch barbette mounted guns. Named after
Major General Nathan Towson who served with distinction in the War of 1812
and the Mexican War.

Battery Heart contained two 5-inch balanced pillar mounted guns. Named after
Major Jonathan Heart who served during the Revolution and was killed by Indians at
Fort Recovery, Ohio in 1791.

Battery Augustin contained two 3-inch masking parapet guns. Named after
2nd Lt. Joseph N. Augustin, Jr. who was killed in 1898 at San Juan, Cuba.
